We’re excited to announce Lloyd Edwards as the winner of the Signmaking Apprentice of the Year in our HTAE Learner Awards 2024! Nominated by Mike Gooch, Sign Making tutor, and Mike Barrett, Production Manager at Sapphire Signs Ltd, Lloyd has shown exceptional growth and dedication throughout his apprenticeship.
Originally a quiet member of the group, Lloyd has blossomed over time, growing in confidence, and becoming an integral part of the team. His commitment to excellence in classwork and his eagerness to improve have stood out from the beginning. As his skill set developed, Lloyd impressed everyone at Sapphire Signs, thriving in a fast-paced environment where only the best succeed. He actively sought opportunities to learn complex machinery, furthering his contributions to the team.
Mike Barrett, Production Manager, shares, “Lloyd is a dedicated, hardworking young man. He’s organised, focused, and has a great eye for detail. His work is always of excellent quality, and he’s built strong relationships with his colleagues. Lloyd is an asset to us and a credit to the Apprentice Scheme provided by Hull Training and Adult Education.”
Lloyd’s consistency, work ethic, and the difference he’s made were key reasons for his nomination. As Mike Gooch puts it, “It isn’t just a pleasure to have taught Lloyd, it’s a pleasure to know him.”

Lloyd was presented with his award by Daniel Casey, Managing Director of Sapphire Signs at HTAE Learner Awards Evening, held at the Guildhall in Hull.
